Who are you?

My name is Andreas, I play guitar in ATM and try to sneak in a death metal growl or black metal scream when it seems appropriately.

I’m a Dane, who in 2010 married my love Amanda from the US. We and our son Axel live in Illinois.

I spend my childhood in Denmark and Nepal, and most of my young adulthood in Denmark, playing metal and metalcore. Ordained Deacon in 2007, and traveled around Europe and the US with Pastor Bob Beeman from 2005 through 2010, being involved in Christian metal festivals as a volunteer, playing in bands, and speaking a few times.

Describe your walk with God

I don’t recall a time when I was not convinced that God was real and that Jesus was my close, invisible friend, always there to listen and help me through.

My parents have been great role models in showing God’s love in action to people around them. When I was in my mid teens I wondered if I in fact was just living on my parents faith, and what if I had grown up with parents who were Hindus or Buddhists?

While raising those healthy questions, He provided a deep, deep peace and assurance to me, deeper than anything the world or religious rituals can offer.

Through my walk with Jesus, God has shown His greatness, care, guidance, and divine provision by putting me in positions that I never intended to pursue, like in 2007 impulsively (with my dad) starting the annual three day Green Light District Festival for Christian metalheads in Denmark. This festival became the start of a movement for young Christian metalheads in Denmark, which Jonas Brunsnæs quickly became a major part of, establishing Sanctuary Denmark, starting a few Bible study groups for metalheads across Denmark, weekend metal band retreats, Grindhouse Construction metal shows at venues, and much more.

Being used by God Almighty as His hands and feet has been the greatest honor, giving me purpose, joy, and peace by being in His good will for us.

Why are you a part of “At The Mountain”?

I see and believe that God’s hand is on this project. When Morten, Terry, and Jonas met up the very first time in Kenya, I was with them in throughs and prayers. Seeing God’s blessings on the project, even before a song was written, I wanted to be a part of experiencing God moving through this.

My expectation was to be a part of this as a prayer partner, seeking God and His Word for sharing encouragement and possible inspiration and guidance for my friends.

When the guys met up to jam the second time, they invited me to join as a musician as well. Excited to see God glorified and people drawn to Him through At the Mountain.

What are your musical influences?

In the early 90’s, I was drawn to hard rock and heavy bands, where Guns N Roses, Metallica, Joe Satriani, and Disneyland After Dark were among my absolute favourites.

After playing in a couple of original hard rock bands as a teenager, I sought heavier music, was a part of doom/viking/blackened band Day of Disaster in 1999-2000, metalcore band Barricades with Morten 2004-2009, southern metalcore band Solace the Day with Jonas 2008-2010, live bass player for AHTDU for a year, part of founding black metal band Dödsmarsch in 2010, and currently playing in blackened surf-metal band Bub Walker and The TombsTones.

BobFest 2004 changed my life, which was where I first met Pastor Bob, and where I first experienced the Christian metal community/family. After that year, I traveled to Christian metal festivals in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, England, Wales, and Cornerstone Festivals in Illinois and California, to be a part of this unique subculture and fellowship.

Some of my favourite bands quickly became Extol, Crimson Moonlight, Antestor, Frosthardr, Drottnar, Admonish, Pantokrator, Lengsel, Vaakevandring, Arvinger, Vardøger, Inevitable End, Living Sacrifice, Nodes of Ranvier, Zao, The Chariot, Norma Jean, Impending Doom, and Grave Declaration.

How do you get your sound?

I use a couple of different Les Paul guitars from ESP and my pedal setup varies but for At The Mountain I use the Mighty “Butt-Thrust” is a key component to my sound.

I use the Peavey 6505+ 120W amp amp head with various speaker cabinets.
